Our Community Is Niave Or Stupid When It Comes To Sex And Our Children.
Unwanted pregnancies statistics are rising in our high school communities. Babies are having babies. Parents are becoming grand-parents and babysitters way too early. We live in a southern Christian community. The Right to Life organization is very strong here. Many of the girls feel pressure to keep their babies. The ones that decide abortion is the way to go often go to another town. Girls are terrified that their parents will find out. There has been more than one shot gun wedding here. The high school health class curriculum doesn’t explain how to prevent pregnancy. Girls are afraid to go to the Plan parent Hood. The office is in the middle of Main Street. They don’t want to be seen. Our high school is asking to have a course on sexual behavior. The course will be offered only to those who can bring in a parental authorization form. My daughter told me the minister’s daughter just found out she is pregnant. She has not told her father yet. I was so confused when our minister said if we sign this form we are giving our children a license to have sex. Everyone is high and mighty until it happens to them. I am looking forward to his sermon in a few weeks.
